Adyen's procurement team went live with its first source-to-pay suite in February 2024. Under three years later, they had retired it.
This whitepaper is the team's own account of why it happened: the three problems that were costing Adyen its scarcest resource, how they chose an orchestration partner, the one-email launch, the decision to retire the S2P altogether and connect Omnea directly to their ERP, and the agents they are building now. It is written by Gabriel Galdino and Sam Kaserer of Adyen's procurement team, with a foreword by Michael van Keulen, Omnea's CPO in Residence.
"This paper is written by procurement people for procurement people, and we hope it's useful to you if you're dealing with a similar transformation project, whether it's for a source-to-pay, ERP, contract lifecycle management, or any other tool for your company's ecosystem."

Why the legacy suite era is ending — a foreword from Michael van Keulen on why the next generation of procurement infrastructure won't be another suite.
The limitations of the original architecture — the three problems with Adyen's S2P (user experience, configuration, integration) and why, combined, they were costing the company its scarcest resource: time.
How Adyen chose its partner — five orchestration tools screened, one non-negotiable (third-party risk management), and the cultural fit that decided it.
How the tech stack evolved — from tools split by risk, to a suite, to Omnea layered on top, to Omnea alone, with adoption, speed, landscape and cost scored at each stage.
What the new architecture made possible — the one-email launch, a single New Request button for every workflow, live visibility on every request, and proportional risk management built into intake.
The numbers — average end-to-end cycle times before and after: 18 to 32 days in the old S2P, around 10 days three months into Omnea.
Recoding the stack for the agentic era — cutting out the S2P, connecting Omnea directly to the ERP, and the advice Adyen would give any team starting out.
The next phase — sourcing, cleaner data, and the first agents Adyen is building with Omnea's Applied AI team.
