We brought our CFO Series to New York for the first time, and Asana’s offices were the perfect backdrop for a full room of over 80+ finance, procurement, and operations leaders.
With these events we aim to create space for candid, operator-led conversation about how procurement is evolving inside the modern office of the CFO and what it really takes to drive transformation at scale. The discussion was honest, practical, and grounded in what teams are actually doing today, not what they hope to do “someday”.
Executive panel
Claire Hughes Johnson (Corporate Officer & Advisor, Stripe),Michael Gordon (previously CFO & COO, MongoDB), and Paul Sheppard (Chief Financial Officer, Amplify) explored why procurement is increasingly viewed as a strategic lever—one that can increase velocity, reduce risk, and enable better decisions as companies scale. A recurring theme: as complexity rises, maintaining speed without sacrificing control becomes a defining challenge for finance and operations leaders.
Procurement panel
Matt Luongo (Chief Administrative Officer, Gen II), Matt Brady (Chief Procurement Officer, The BrandTech Group) and Brent Boitmann (Director of Procurement, Goosehead Insurance) shared what it takes to modernise procurement in practice. From growth-driven spend complexity and governance pressure, to stakeholder adoption, one message came through clearly: tools only deliver value when teams invest in change management and drive early wins that build trust.
Across both panels, there was strong alignment on where AI will have immediate impact. Procurement stood out as one of the clearest near-term opportunities inside finance, with the bar quickly rising. Leaders are moving away from legacy tools, and toward solutions that prove measurable outcomes: time-to-value, integration simplicity, total cost of ownership, and ROI over hype.
Our wrap-up video captures the energy in the room and the insights shared on stage—from how leaders are thinking about procurement strategically, to what “buying smart” really means in an AI era.
